Dam releases this year will run until mid-October and you'll enjoy some of the Poconos best whitewater rafting. From easy flowing waters to extreme rapids, there's a trip just right for you.
The two major rivers - the free flowing Delaware River and the Lehigh River boast an awesome whitewater rafting experience with different levels of rapids.

Specializing in whitewater rafting through the Lehigh River Gorge and offering trips throughout the season through the Lehigh River Gorge.
The majority of people favor the two main rivers in the Poconos - The Delaware River and the Lehigh River. There are other rivers and rapids as well, ranging from the sleepy to the extreme. One thing is clear, the Poconos offer some of the best white water rafting in the entire Northeast. Each river has its own personality, with the Lehigh having some of the more moderately challenging runs.

It highly recommended that you seek out a qualified outfitter or local guide to match up your skill level with an appropriate part of the river.
Because the flow of water is dependent on season and recent rainfall, conditions are always variable from one day to the next, so make sure you solicit the help white water river guides who can report on the river conditions.
Many of the outfitters, also know as "deliveries" since they offer pick up and drop off services to and from the river, also provide additional services like camping and other equipment rentals - it's a good idea to spend a bit of time planning your trip and making sure that you're prepared - sunscreen, old sneakers, etc.

Guides, gear, and shuttles to and from the river are included. Ask about dam release weekends when extra water fills the river gorge.

Jim Thorpe River Adventures is located in the heart of the Lehigh River Gorge adjacent to the Glen Onoko Falls. Providing guided whitewater river tours through the Lehigh River Gorge from mid-March to October. Various tours available throughout the season.

Chamberlain Canoes provides 30 years experience with white water river adventures through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreational Area. They provide guided and non-guided trips. Shawnee River Adventures provides escorted river rafting trips through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Season ranges from mid-April through October.

Release Plan for the Lehigh River - Army Corps of Engineers On the scheduled release weekends, the Corps plans to release 750 to 1,000 cubic feet of water per second into the Lehigh. At a minimum, the Corps will release 250 cubic feet per second. Rafters and other adventurous boaters await the releases and flock to the river for a chance to ride whitewater.
