Elk Mountain Ski Resort
Elk Mountain features 27 trails and 6 lifts. It is NNW of the Poconos north of Scranton PA (add an hour and a half driving time - maybe two). The closest thing to Gun Stock (NH) this far south. If you think you're lost on the way, you're probably almost there.

Technically speaking, Elk Mountain is not in the Poconos; but, it is close enough to the Northern Region of the Poconos and since it offers the best skiing in Pennsylvania, it makes it onto our list.
If you're practicing, learning or refreshing your skills before you head out to the nation's premiere ski destinations (Vermont, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, etc), this should be your last stop before you board the plane.
Fewer crowds and better snow make Elk the place to go - within reasonable driving distance to the NE metro areas of Philly, NYC, Balto and DC.
Ten trails are open - mostly groomed granular conditions.
