Water Gap Golf and Country Club
Until the early 1940's Water Gap Country Club was the famed as Wolf Hollow Country Club - birthplace of the golf's Eastern Open. The course today is the same well-groomed test that confronted golfing greats of the Golden Era of Golf. Golfers now tread in the footsteps of such immortals as Walter Hagen, Johnny Farrell, Gene Sarazen, MacDonald Smith, Wille MacFarland, and Leo Diegel.
Today's Water Gap Country Club retains much of the nostalgia of the Wolf Hollow era. From the historic charm of the clubhouse and grounds to the links design of Scottish architect Robert White, Water Gap Country Club retains a special bond to the past.
Water Gap Country Club is a semi-private golf resort which offers golf access to member, public and tournament play. Whether you are joining us as a golf member, hosting your company outing, or simply enjoying a relaxing round of golf, you will discover that Water Gap Country Club has a special atmosphere that makes it unique. Nearby attractions include horseback riding, river rafting, canoeing, hunting, fishing, antiquing, outlet shopping, summer theatre and sightseeing.
Situated on a knoll overlooking the course, the spacious clubhouse has everything for the comfort and convenience of its guests. The clubhouse features a fine restaurant and grill room that offers delicious meals and patio dining in season, three bars, including the "gazebo" overlooking the golf course, banquet facilities for up to 150, 23 attractive air-conditioned double rooms with TV and bath, a magnificent 30' x 80' outdoor pool with bathhouse, men's and ladies' locker rooms and a practice putting green.
Water Gap Country Club offers excellent facilities for your golf tournament, wedding, business meeting or class reunion. We welcome groups from 20 to 150. Our banquet staff is experienced in providing attentive and courteous service that will ensure a successful function. Shotgun starts for up to 136 golfers can be accommodated. Overnight accommodations are available for weekday and weekend outings.
Built in 1922, this 18-hole Championship layout offers a rare challenge to all golfers. The course capitalizes on the natural features of the Pocono's picturesque terrain to present a true challenge. This formidable course rewards the shot maker and position player. Breaking Walter Hagen's course record 64 is an overwhelming task indeed! Whatever your score, you will enjoy the gorgeous scenic beauty of our 18 holes!
Water Gap Country Club's number 4 hole (formerly number 12 during the Wolf Hollow years) is famed as "Hagen's Folly". It is remembered that Walter Hagen, arguably the best golfer of his era, scored a disastrous nine on this hole during a major tournament. This par 3, 120 yard hole, with elevated green and tee, remains just as hazardous to today's golfer.
The Water Gap Country Club's golf shop is professionally staffed and well-stocked. Our golf staff offers lessons, bag storage, handicap service and a wide variety of quality golf apparel. Water Gap owns also owns its well maintained fleet or over 65 golf carts.
