Nature Trails in the Poconos

The Pocono Mountains abounds with wildlife and offers lots of recreational nature trails for hiking, mountain biking, dirt biking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and all-terrain vehicles (ATV's). These trails are ideal for naturalists, birdwatchers and photographers too. Enjoy the beautiful outdoors in any season.

Route 402 in Pike County

The Thunder Swamp Trail System crosses numerous valleys, ridges and streams. It was built by the Youth Conservation Corps in the 1970's and consists of over 45 miles of trails. The main trail, blazed in blue (28 miles), has been designated as a State Forest Hiking Trail. This special distinction gives the trial special protection and provides a quality experience. The trail loops provide vistas of the Pocono Mountains, abundant wildlife viewing opportunities, numerous wetlands and streams. Camp sites are permitted provided they are not within 50 feet of the footpath. Portions of the trail allow ATVs, snowmobiles, mountain bikes, and horses.
