Ski Season is winding down - better hurry!!
All of the ski resorts are now closed for the season with the exception of Elk Mountain. Spring conditions during the day are great, but the warm temp at night mean that there's no snow making.
Fortunatly for ski fans, the more popular ski resorts are still open, but time is running out, and conditions are not getting any better. Enjoy the last of the season - probably this weekend.
Other than that, this season will go down as one of the shortest - in spite of snowmaking technology.
The Poconos ski resorts are the closest slopes to NYC and Philadelphia - just think, in as little as two hours you could be up in the mountains enjoying the great outdoors.
We list all the ski resorts in the Poconos on this site - including the seven major downhill ski resorts in the Poconos and two others near Scranton.
Blue Mountain - Closed for the season.
Shawnee - Closed for the season.
Elk Mountain - Still open.
Camelback - Closed for the season.
Sno Mountain - Closed for the season.
Alpine - Closed for the season.
Jack Frost - Closed for the season.
Big Boulder - Closed for the season.
Big Bear - Closed for the season.
Tanglwood - Closed for the 2011/2012 Season.
Without question, the best skiing near NYC, Baltimore/WashDC and Philadelphia are the Poconos Mountains and surrounding areas.
All the ski areas are listed here, even the smallest ones, so there's plenty to browse and look at. You're welcome to add comments to any of the pages, so if you have some tips or insight into a particular resort - sharing would be nice.
Other pages of interest are the snowboarding page, cross country skiing and the snow tubing page. Some of the resorts (not ski resorts) have snow tubing on their property and is included in the packages they offer. By the way, tubing is not just for kids. Also, you might want to look at the cross country skiing pages as well - great condition, and the snowmobiling pages.
Bookmark this page for future reference - the season is now underway so check back for frequent updates.
